"Bhittai's Surmiyoon" is a series of short animations and musical pieces commissioned to Lahooti by the Culture Department, Government of Sindh, with a profound purpose of paying tribute to Sindh's revered patron saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
At its core lies the extraordinary storytelling prowess of Bhittai,
who intricately weaves folklores that delve deep into the realms of love's longing and the anguish of separation, bravery, and the profound journey of self-discovery.
Bhittai’s female characters are a symbol of vulnerability, courage, determination and love for the motherland -
a reflection of Sindh’s history of a matriarchal society where most deities were female.
This project stands as a testament to Bhittai's enduring legacy, ensuring that his profound tales and poetic brilliance continue to inspire not only us but the generations to come.
Within the realm of "Bhittai's Surmiyoon," the shared vision of Lahooti and Sindh Culture Department comes to life, as it celebrates the poetic tapestry woven by Shah Latif, known throughout the length and breadth of Sindh, not only as a poet of the highest order but as also as saint, a Sufi and a spiritual guide.
